STONE SCHOOLHOUSE

On June 26, 2023, a crew of 18, including FRSP volunteers and RSP staff met in the thick woods and brush to clear the Stone Schoolhouse site. While the building will not be a visitation area due to lack of parking, its history will be described and display in the Learning Center. Activity is underway to stabilize and preserve the century old building.

This is a picture of the schoolhouse before the clearing work on June 26th, 2023.

As of June 2024, the park maintenance crew has completed the re-roofing of the old Stone Schoolhouse.
It looks great and will help to preserve this historic structure.

History of the Seguinland Road Schoolhouse

Located within Reid State Park, across from the Morse Pond Preserve, you will find one of the few remaining stone schoolhouses in town.  Georgetown resident, Theo Holtwijk, has done extensive research on the history of Reid State Park. He has shared that this school was known as the Woods School and that Walter Reid, born in 1869, attended school here from 1874-1876.

Click HERE to learn more about the history of the park and to watch a wonderful presentation
that Theo put together for the Georgetown Historical Society.

Below you will find a video from News Center Maine which shows the outside of the schoolhouse.

Unfortunately due to safety concerns, the schoolhouse is not open to the public.
