NURDLE PATROL

The Friends of Reid State Park has partnered with the Georgetown Conservation Commission to create the Georgetown, Maine  Nurdle Patrol.

What is a nurdle?

Nurdles are small plastic pellets that are the building blocks for so many items we use every day. Nurdles are a global issue and something that all of us need to be concerned about. They are polluting our waterways and causing harm to animals who mistake them for food. If you look closely, you will most likely find nurdles in Georgetown’s waters, beaches, salt marshes and along our coastline.

Georgetown is working to set up it's own Nurdle Patrol. The nationwide citizen science project was started in 2018 by the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve (Reserve) at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute.

Do you have 10-30 minutes to hunt for nurdles at Reid State Park? Are you interested in joining Georgetown Nurdle Patrol?
